• Originally leading the executive design of 400 Guestrooms & 280 Serviced Apartments of a 6* St. Regis Hotel, I managed & coordinated the design of external consultants to produce fully coordinated construction.
• Review, understand & interpret design consultants design documentation, highlighting & reporting errors, omissions, conflicts & areas of concern
• Lead design development workshops with the design consultants & the client
• Lead coordination meetings with architectual, lighting, MEP & signage consultants
• Ensure conformity to operational, ADA & fire safety standards & regulations
• Weekly reporting of design progress & highlighting of issues

• Joining HBA Melbourne as the lead Documenter & Coordinator Ian led a team in the documentation & coordination of two hotels, before taking on a project management role working closely with the Design Director & Clients.

As per the conditions of Ian's working visa which enabled him to only work for Bates Smart for six months within Australia, Ian took up a 6 month contract in a Senior Designer role leading a small team in the design and documentation of Retail, Hospitality & Office Units producing fast responses to limited budget projects including retail roll outs such as.

Macau / Melbourne

• After running a small Interior Design team for Bates Smart on the Crown Casino within the City of Dreams, Macau, China, Ian was invited to join Bates Smart in Melbourne to work on the Crown Promenade Conference Hall.
• Assessing and approving every finishing material sourced by the contractor for intent and quality to ensure it meets the minimum specification the client has requested and is a match for the original material sourced.
• Liaising directly with the Design Managers on all interior design decisions.
• Liaising with Contractors, ELV, MEP, Operations & F&B to ensure the design meets the requirements and coordinate the installation of services.
• Review shop drawings for furniture and travel to Contractor factories to assess prototypes and ensure the design intent is being adhered to.
• Travel into China on a regular basis to assess the quality and approve the buy off of stone blocks & direct the cutting of into slabs. A further visit would then be necessary to direct the bookmatch pattern & approve.
