Responsibilities included:• Management of one of the largest VCQA-accredited Volunteer Centres in England. During 2011/12 we received 2270 visits; we processed over 14000 online enquiries; and responded to 5621 telephone/e-mail enquiries;• Coordination of the Ask BVSC! Service which, during 2011/12, provided advice and support to 1369 small and very new organisations;• Overseeing the set-up and development of ‘Birmingham Healthwatch’ – the new, independent consumer champion for health and social care;• Management of ‘People First Birmingham’, a user-led self-advocacy service for learning disabled adults in Birmingham;• Successful re-launch and management of the Birmingham Health Local Involvement Network (LINk) which included an overhaul of governance arrangements;• Management of highly successful ESF/NOMS-funded offender management programme, which placed ex-offenders into supported volunteering programmes – targets were exceeded;• Management of contract with Heart of Birmingham PCT to develop and deliver an accredited ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ training programme and toolkit for frontline professionals. Over 100 people have currently been trained;• Management of Third Sector Health contract with Birmingham & Solihull Cluster, focusing on Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) engagement. The work we have undertaken with Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG during 2012/13 is considered emerging best practice;• Management of 2 EU Lifelong Learning-funded volunteering exchange programmes; one focused on the promotion of sport volunteering; the other promoting volunteering opportunities and experiences for older people;• Contract management and compliance responsibility for Birmingham City Council’s Third Sector Support contract 2012-15;• Member of corporate bid-writing team which has recently been successful in winning major Big Lottery Fund consortia-based programmes including 'Talent Match' and 'Fulfilling Lives: Supporting People with Complex Needs'.

• Strategic lead for the ‘Prevent’ strand of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST;• Successfully delivered against a range of public service agreements and performance indicators relating to counter-terrorism, resulting in good practice recognition;• Commissioned and project managed a £650,000 regional counter-terrorism fund;• Established and advised on 11 sub-regional ‘Prevent’ partnerships and action plans;• Member of ACPO national review of Counter Terrorism Local Profiles;• Managed a series of high profile regional conferences, seminars and consultations

• Regional policy lead for community cohesion, equalities, migration and faith-engagement;• Promoted and implemented equalities policy and legislation across the region;• Successfully negotiated Local Area Agreements (LAAs) across 33 local authorities, exceeding Whitehall targets; • Coordinated the implementation of the CLG Preventing Violent Extremism Pathfinder Programme;• Developed and implemented a regional system of, and process for, community ‘tension monitoring’ across all West Midlands local authorities.

• Provider of expert policy advice and briefings to the senior management team;• Author of series of research and policy bulletins for the third sector;• Acted as a campaigning and lobbying voice for the third sector in Birmingham;• Project management of ‘Local Infrastructure Support Project’ (a major research project considering the role of the third sector in public service delivery), including authorship of the final report.

• Responsible for daily management of constituency office, including: volunteer management; parliamentary casework; political research; event organisation; production of election literature; hosting of MP advice surgeries; press and media, and speechwriting;• Organiser of local and European election campaigns.

• Principal trustee and elected figurehead of a registered charity with 12,000 members, 200 members of staff and an annual turnover of £3.5 million;• Instigated a workplace agreement with the recognised staff trade union, which transformed employer/employee relations;• Oversaw a fundamental review and restructure of the Union’s democratic structures which boosted member involvement and activity;• Coordinated a series of major campaigns relating to student finance, welfare and anti-racism;• Member of University Council and Senate, University of Wales Academic Appeals Board, Council and Court, and NUS Wales Executive.

Responsible for the organisation and financial management of the then UK’s largest outdoor student event: Swansea University Mid-Summer Ball.
