The focus of this role is to help customers choose Microsoft IoT as the technical solution for their IoT needs and then to aid a rapid and smooth implementation, either by introducing suitable partners or assisting technical implementation teams to overcome any blocking issues.The role also includes an element of new business development, leading potential customers from an awareness of IoT to building value propositions and business cases to implement against.During my time in this role, the definition of IoT has broadened from telemetry related projects to Digital Twins, AI especially using vision systems and more recently the Metaverse using AR and simulation to create synthetic replicas of entire factories.Customers I have worked with include, BP, Unilever, RB, Inmarsat and Royal Mail. Projects have varied from connected personal devices to connected factories.

The internal role of the Subject Matter Expert is to provide both the business development and consulting delivery organisations with accurate, up-to-date information regarding the capability of the ThingWorx platform, provide estimations of the effort required to complete POCs and Production Projects and advise upon best practices to be used when implementing ThingWorx. As SME I also assist in the development of new training materials for both internal and external use.Externally, the role is that of a consultant, guiding customers in how to best implement their solution using the ThingWorx platform, this includes:- Rapid development of proof of concept designs and examples to show what is possible- Strategic Consulting, advising the customer of the best direction for their initial or next-stage IoT projects- Application blueprinting to provide customers with a design plan from which to build their application- End-to-end solution design and implementation- Provision of training, both for the platform and the connectivity solutions. training may be either off-the-shelf or bespoke. - Development of Connectivity Solutions to link remote devices and systems to ThingWorx - Application design and development, from requirements gathering through to data modelling and User Interface development.Internally, the role involves :- Enabling the Global Services Organisation to be capable of delivering ThingWorx based solutions, via a mixture of training and ad-hoc coaching- Assisting the Business Development team in scoping and estimating for RFPs and SOWs- Working with the Business Development team with delivery of pre-sales workshops and demonstrations- Advising PTC University with respect to training course content and post-training certification exams - Selection, training and mentoring of new practice members
