Worked in collaboration with existing staff to grow both math and physics programs to help students integrate their skills to solve authentic problems. Competed successfully for permanent teaching position in the Junior School in following year. In my 10 years there taught math, science, and developed technology and robotics classes in grades 5, 6, 7. In these positions collaborated with other teachers to establish grade-wide and school-wide expectations for behaviour. Demonstrated leadership by identifying a need for a more integrated approach to motivating and engaging students in new ways. Introduced robotics and other technologies as a way to bring my passion for science and mathematics to the students and engage them more authentically in these areas.Also took initiative to develop additional programs in outdoor education and aboriginal cultural awareness. Worked closely with overnight camp experience vendor to establish specialized content that connected student camp experience with in school learning. In addition, conceptualized, planned and delivered a stand-alone grade 7 educational trip experience that served to connect the students with the BC West Coast environment and build teamwork and camaraderie. As a classroom teacher, I worked to ensure learning needs were met with respect to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in the classroom environment. Part of my responsibilities was to assist in writing, updating and reviewing IEPs regularly.In this environment setting clear behavioural expectations was important as was establishing trusting and respectful relationships with the students. I taught a wide range of classes including grade 7, 8, and 9 math; grade 9 science and grade 11 physics; grade 11 and 12 criminology (which I developed locally); grade 12 geography and grade 11 and 12 physical education.
