At Peabody, Ian continues to synthesize a varied background and expertise in Music, Acoustics, and Architecture, in his research and teaching. Ian leads courses and graduate research in many aspects of room acoustic design and analysis, psychoacoustics, acoustic isolation, noise control, acoustic measurement and room modeling.

Ian serves as a thesis advisor and research contributor in Landscape Architecture, specifically on an urban soundscape study, analysis and intervention proposal for E Street NW in Washington DC.

Ian complemented NV5's Technology & Acoustics group, designing room acoustics, sound isolation, and noise control solutions for educational and institutional clients, while expanding the firm's excellence in worship, cultural and performing arts sectors. Ian's experience and skills span from planning and crafting initial room shaping, to design development, analysis and modeling, through project delivery and completion. He is motivated by clear, visual communication of acoustic design ideas, narrowing the gap between acoustics and architectural design, and pursing thoughtful, integrated results.

Ian served as an Associate Professor of Architecture in the School of Art, Design & Architecture at Judson University, near Chicago. He led undergraduate and graduate level design studios as well as courses in Structure+Tectonics, Environmental Technologies, Construction Materials+Methods, Advanced Acoustics & Performing Arts Design. Ian also regularly taught and led a four-week field sketching and watercolor course in Europe.His inquiry and research focuses on the dialogue between tectonics and form, site specific building, craft+making, and phenomenology in human spatial understanding. He encourages exploration in design and representation is committed to both manual and digital media and techniques, and he seeks for new ways to integrate building making, building performance and form. Ian's specific expertise resides in the design, research and historical context of the concert hall, both as a cultural building type and as a performance venue for music.From 2010-2014, he served the Department of Architecture as the Assistant Chair for Undergraduate Programs, and from 2014-2016, he led the largest academic unit at Judson University as Chair of the Department of Architecture.

At WRL, Ian served in the cultural arts studio, synthesizing architectural design and acoustic design leadership, at various design phases from concept through construction to completion, on performing arts projects. His work included design feasibility, historic renovation & adaptation, and new construction.
