Project Speed Racer is our senior project attempt to create an amateur rocket capable of reaching Mach 5 at low altitudes. Challenges include designing a custom motor capable of high thrust over a short burn time, designing a structurally sound nosecone capable of handling high force and thermal loading environments while being able to store recovery and avionics systems inside, and estimating the loading, thermal, and aerodynamic environments in flight.

As chief engineer for my school rocket club UMBRA Propulsion I am responsible for reviewing designs by various propulsion teams across multiple projects, ensuring that necessary analysis is completed properly, and motor designs are on track. Reviewed CAD work and drawings by others, and helped teach fellow students about the engineering design process and UMBRA's common practices.

At the LRC I tutor students in Physics, Calculus, and Aerospace courses, helping them succeed in their classes. As a member of the LRC, I also help connect students to other centers on campus to help them succeed.

As a Thermal analyst on the mission integration team I model the thermal environments the launch vehicle may encounter during the mission to verify customer requirements. I use tools such as MATLAB, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, and more to estimate these thermal environments. I have also had the opportunity to present results to large groups, and assist in thermal launch operations for the Starliner first crewed flight.

As propulsion team lead for the sustainer motor within the rocketry club UMBRA, I lead a group of 6 others to design and build the second stage rocket motor intended to reach apogee of around 200k ft. With my team I have used the programs Burnsim and Openmotor to develop an O-class solid motor, while keeping within requirements for a new thin walled casing build to save weight and add an estimated 40k additional feet in altitude. I have also lead CAD design for nozzle, bulkhead, and head-end ignition components, and created engineering drawings for manufacturing. Additionally I have helped manage propellant mixing for multiple UMBRA motors.

I worked within the propulsion team of my rocketry club to design a 2nd stage rocket motor intended to reach an altitude of 100k ft. Within the project I used SOLIDWORKS and Burnsim to design the nozzle for the sustainer motor, as well as helped on propellant mix days.
