Hi, my name is Ian! I graduated from NKU with a degree in Japanese language and culture and studied abroad for a year at Gifu University in Japan. I’m fluent in Japanese but I love dabbling in other languages such as Spanish, Korean, German, and Mandarin Chinese. I also enjoy coding and am currently learning Python and JavaScript. I have a passion for video games, especially fighting games, because they demand you to constantly think, react, learn, and grow. I’ve even spearheaded organizing weekly local meetups at a local arcade as a way to grow our local fighting game scene and create a community. I feel that I have a nurturing personality and I love helping people with anything they need. I’ve interpreted dentist appointments for coworkers who can’t speak English well, helped them get apartments, and helped them set up bank accounts and go to the DMV. I also used to (and sometimes still do) volunteer at the Japanese Language School of Greater Cincinnati in the preschool and kindergarten classes helping the children of Japanese expats keep their Japanese language skills intact. I would love to one day have a job where I help support the public welfare of my community by making a difference in people's lives, especially with a job such as being a translator or interpreter in the medical field, or by doing something to help disadvantaged populations. I love to learn and I think one of my best skills is my desire and ability to learn things that I don’t understand. That and my warm personality and positive attitude make me a good candidate for anything I put my mind to.
