Growing up with a pastor and worship leader for parents, I not only grew up in the church, but grew up apart of the church. Church became a big thing for me early on, and being able to play and be apart of God's work in that way was truely special. I saw the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of church. Being where I was, I was in a unique position to see all of this and it really helped shape my faith and who I am today. Worship through music became a big part of me through these experiences as well as events and groups I got to be apart of outside of my own church and school. I also have met a lot of people who, through their own actions and words of worship, inspired me in different ways in what worship is.As I near the end of my time in college and discerning what God's will for my life is. I have been drawn to the idea that worship is a big part of who I am. Worship through music and technology namely. I have had the opportunity to train and teach people around in years past in sound and other A/V technologies within church and have found that I really enjoy doing that. We can worship God through our use of technology just as much as we can playing an instrument or signing our hearts out. What I have learned and am still learning however, is finding a balance with it. Idols are all around us, trying to pull us farther and farther away from God and the goodness that only He can provide. Technology often falls into this category, as something that pulls us away from God causing us to not put our hope in the One who is the giver of all life. In my time using technology in worship, I have learned that there is a balance, and a point at which our use of technology can draw us close to God and give us another way to worship and honor Him. Using a mouse and keyboard or a faders on a soundboard can be just as worshipful as playing an instrument or singing. I want to share this and teach others about this. I still have a lot to learn about this, but right now this is where I feel God moving me.
