I'm an interdisciplinary, formerly-practising technology lawyer, programmer, and data engineer. I write at https://sighbutwhy.substack.com/, because demystifying and disentangling the law, technology, and intersecting concepts for everyone (if the world centred around lawyers... oh boy) is important to me. My main programming languages are Python, Rust and JavaScript.I run Elefant, a startup looking to increase access to justice. I also work with SMU's Centre for Computational Law on the L4 Domain Specific Language for law.One of my other projects is running a Generative AI training course for lawyers at Dentons Rodyk & Davidson LLP, an old and storied firm, but very much a forward-looking one that I am very glad to be working with.I take pride in having done everything from strategy, to rolling up my sleeves and diving into the technicals and details of ops: legal and corporate, physical and digital. I have run legal data science projects, and built my own datasets (legal and otherwise) and web apps as a hobby. I'm not just another lawyer trying to get in on the AI hype. I have built a simple backpropagation neural network from scratch, relying on internet materials, and have made use of large language models such as BERT, GPT, and Llama. I enjoy it, but understanding what's actually at stake in a technology-driven world is important to me.
