CurrentIan leads Governance, Risk and Compliance services at KPMG in Bermuda and the KPMG Islands Group. He brings some 26 years’ experience in the insurance sector from working in roles across the UK, Bermuda and in Emerging Markets.His experience in practice includes five years in Bermuda (working with a range of (re)insurers, liaising closely with the BMA on governance, risk management and regulatory developments); 10 years with another Big 4 firm and a further five years as a partner in a mid-tier firm in London where he led governance, risk and internal audit services to a large range of insurance clients. Ian has worked with a wide range of FTSE listed and multi-national insurance groups. In his time in the UK, he was an approved ‘Skilled Person’ for the purposes of conducting s166 reviews on financial service firms on behalf of the PRA and FCA.Ian also has experience in senior leadership roles in internal audit in industry, including Chief Auditor for RSA Plc’s Emerging Markets division (covering some 24 countries across Latin America, Asia, Middle East & Eastern Europe) and Audit Partner at Direct Line Group Plc.Ian has published a number of thought leadership articles in relation to innovation and the future of internal audit and in relation to challenges and current issues relating to governance, risk management and internal audit for insurance and wider financial services firms. Ian was actively involved in thought leadership and presentations for the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA) in the UK. Ian has presented at a number of events in Bermuda, including with the Institute of Directors, with the IIA and at KPMG webinars. His broader governance and risk management experience includes Board effectiveness reviews, advisory/ assurance projects relating to the design and implementation of enterprise risk management and compliance frameworks.
