ResponsibilitiesOverseeing all engineering services standards for the Burton Group comprising some 1,500 stores UK wide.Responsible for the development of an in house design and project management team. This was established to gauge external consultancy costs and work on new corporate designsMonitoring the performance of consulting engineers and contractors engaged in works forming part of the groups Capex and revenue budgets ensuring continual improvement in quality and delivery.Setting Standards and developing all engineering specifications including Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health, CCTV, EPOS, security, escalators and lifts, and standards to which all concession retailers must comply.AchievementsChaired the cross group engineering committee to ensure all departments used a common engineering philosophyResponsible for delivering the largest comfort cooling roll out programme of any European or international retailer. This project installed comfort cooling in 1,226 branches throughout the United Kingdom in 50 weeks. Responsible for leading a group of colleagues to the United States to work with one of the leading American department store retailers in reviewing construction methods they adopt when refurbishing or building new stores (1995). This evaluation was completed in terms of programme, installation costs, running costs, maintenance costs, impact on the retail zone and reliability, aesthetic impact on the retail zone, comfort conditions and environmental implications. Following the success of the delegation to the USA I was asked to undertake a similar exercise in Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand (1996).Designing standard components within each store to decrease on site time give greater buying power.Responsible for the development and introduction of various procurement methods including retrospective discount schemes.
