Elexon administers the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) in the GB electricity market. in essence, Elexon compares how much electricity generators and suppliers said they would produce or consume with actual volumes. They work out a price for the difference and transfer funds accordingly. This involves taking over 1.25 million meter readings every day, settling around 37TWh of electricity annually under the BSC and handling £1.7 billion of customers’ funds each year under the settlement transactions.We are a not-for-profit entity, funded by electricity market participants. The Midlands Air Ambulance is the only Charity responsible for funding and operating three Air Ambulances serving the communities of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. This constitutes the largest air ambulance operating region in the UK.Since 1991, the charity has responded to more than 48,000 missions averaging 2,000 per year, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK.The Charity’s three aircraft each carry a crew comprising Pilot, two Paramedics or Flight Doctors plus full life-support medical equipment. Operating from strategically located regional air bases, the maximum flying time to hospital from anywhere in the region is less than 15 minutes.I was proud to serve as a Trustee of this excellent organisation and look forward to continuing to support the dedicated staff and fundraisers, who work tirelessly to help save lives.

Leadership of the UK & European Business Development team; a separate business unit which is part of National Grid Ventures; established alongside National Grid's RIIO regulated business. Our role was to deliver the organisation's strategic growth ambitions, securing new business in the UK and other parts of Europe, as well as providing technical and commercial expertise in the US.During this role, I led the team that achieved Financial Investment Decision for the IFA2 Interconnector to France (with RTE), jointly developed the Viking Link Interconnector to Denmark (with Energinet), as well as securing preferred bidder status for a competitive tendered private iDNO opportunity; a first for National Grid. I have represented National Grid at HMG Select Committees and in the National Media (The Times and Financial Times). I was also actively involved in energy technology and innovation in both the UK and the US.In addition, the UK and European Business Development team was transformed into one of the youngest and most diverse teams in the Company, resulting in high performance and approx 35% reduction in operating costs (over the first 2 years).I was also a participant on numerous Board's during this period, including Chairmanship roles.

I was proud to have joined the Powell Engineering board in a non-executive and advisory role during the last quarter of 2015. This work assisted the development of the new business plan and helped develop strategy.

Working with Burns & McDonnell to accelerate the strategy for UK and Europe, prior to establishing a local company. Burns & McDonnell are an ambitious engineering business with an established presence in North and South America, Asia and the Middle East. They will be entering the UK and European market, where Burns McDonnell believe that they can bring global best practice in safety, quality and engineering to help infrastructure customers.

As Power Sector Director for the Costain Group, I led the Costain as the business made new market entrance into T&D, Power Generation and enhanced our services for the Nuclear Sector.I had full responsibility for Costain’s engineering solutions in the Energy Infrastructure sector. This includes our offers to customers in Renewables, Transmission & Distribution and all aspects of Power Generation, including Nuclear. I led activities across the Group to ensure we are provided the best service to our Power customers, leveraging Costain’s engineering capability and track record in infrastructure and process engineering.I was also responsible for developing strategic partnerships and alliances, to enable Costain and our partners to deliver great value for our customers. I was the Chairman and an active member of a number of JV Boards, as well as leading Costain's relationships with companies in the UK, Europe and the USA.Under my leadership, Costain is now recognised as a trusted and respected Power and Energy engineering company. We secured new contracts in Nuclear Power, Transmission and Distribution and Power Generation, as well as alliances which will enable future growth. We also developed new customer engagement plans and have a much larger network across the Sector, including relationships with all the principal energy and utility businesses in the UK.I was passionately involved in the development of talent at Costain and for the power industry, mentoring and coaching people at all levels.

Following the successful project management of the due diligence and sale process of Promanex, attention turns to leading the successful integration of the Promanex business into Costain.Responsible for creating and directing the strategy to facilitate growth of Promanex and the long term sustainability and success of the Costain Group. Liaising with all members of the Board to ensure that the Group processes are aligned and optimised and that our people are supported and developed in order to achieve success and in driving business excellence.
