To support the Chairman and Board in preparing, reviewing and implementing plans for the successful operation and development of Civic Voice and the civic movement.To advise and assist the Board in developing and reviewing the strategy of Civic Voice and its approach to developing the civic movement.To act as a representative of Civic Voice and the civic movement in promoting their objectives to the media and other external bodies.To develop effective partnerships with other relevant external organisations in the pursuit of the objectives of Civic Voice and the civic movement.To manage the effective implementation of the Board’s strategy and operational plans.To provide leadership and support to the Board in the identification of potential external partners and funding agencies and the formation of productive, mutually beneficial partnerships.To ensure the provision of high quality support services to Civic Voice member societiesTo line manage other staff and consultants employed by Civic Voice.To manage the operation of the Civic Voice administrative functions including the provision of office accommodation, financial operations in association with the Treasurer, record keeping and all relevant safety and other procedures in compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Civic Voice was the result of extensive consultation and discussion with hundreds of civic and amenity societies and their members and over 100 other interested organisations and partners about the future of the civic movement following closure of the Civic Trust in April 2009. This work was led by the Civic Society Initiative and funded by the National Trust, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and civic societies with support from CPRE, the North of England Civic Trust, English Heritage and the RIBA among others.It was set up by Tony Burton and Ian Harvey.

The Historic Places Panel, facilitated by Historic England, provides a broad spectrum of independent expertise and advice to help local authorities and others engage in the regeneration and revitalisation of historic places. Panellists have a strong interest in place-making, the historic environment and character of place.Visits are a unique opportunity to facilitate wide-ranging discussions and networking, based around specific Place Making questions and areas of focus. The High Streets Task Force is an alliance of place making experts working to redefine the high street. We provide guidance, tools and skills to help communities, partnerships and local government transform their high streets. The High Streets Task Force Sector Leaders Group has responsibility for providing sectoral insights from high streets across the country, developing new knowledge and insight on what works and why, as well as cascading High Streets Task Force intelligence and insight back through their networks to their members.The purpose of the Group is to accelerate the positive transformation of high streets and town centres by influencing the attitudes and behaviours of hundreds of thousands of high street stakeholders, through collaborating with the many organisations, bodies and groups whose members have a sectoral interest in the high street.

Ian Harvey was appointed iCEO to IPM in September 2023, following his appointment as a Senior Fellow of the IPM in 2021. He was awarded a Senior Fellowship for his personal leadership, vision, and commitment to the civic cause, giving voice and support to thousands of peacemakers around the UK. IPM is the global institute dedicated to supporting people improving places.

The alliance was put together by MHCLG and reported directly to Minister of Communities, Stephen Williams MP Civic Voice, CAMRA, National Association of Local Councils, The Theatres Trust and Supporters Direct united to promote greater uptake of rights established under the Localism Act 2011.The Alliance represented over 200,000 individuals and nearly 10,000 grassroots organisations . Ian coordinated the alliance, represented the alliance to the Minister and presented a final report looking at the value of the Assets of Community Value legislation.

Civic Society Initiative was the interim measure before the establishment of Civic Voice• Facilitate and support the process of participation and debate about the future of the civic society initiative• Maintain and develop contacts and communications with the civic society network • Manage and develop the website and all e-communication• Manage contacts with partner organisations, stakeholders and the media• Support the campaign, fundraising and development roles of the Initiative and manage specific projects• Provide regular reporting, both verbal and written to the Director on progress• Recruit and manage volunteers who were supporting the Initiative as a champions network• Deputise for the Director, Civic Society Initiative when required

• To develop and implement a comprehensive business plan with clear financial forecasts and project ideas to increase income from Civic Societies.• To develop and implement new areas of work, (in line with the business plan) to attract and engage new and more active member Civic Societies. This includes putting in place the necessary human, financial and material resources to deliver services effectively.• To provide direction and line management support as required to the Civic Societies Support team. (CST)• To ensure that the necessary resources and processes are in place to help the CST operate effectively and efficiently.
