I worked with a team that consisted of physicists and other mechanical engineering students on various functions relating to the DUNE Project (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment). Specifically, I also served as a member of a team that created and built a structure for a testing apparatus designed to test the properties of optical fibers in extremely cold temperatures. That project was successfully completed. The next project I took a role in involved designing and testing many aspects of "Power Over Fiber" technology, which was a new way of taking power and transmitting it through optical fibers. This work included the design of a safety system, cryogenic testing apparatus, as well as new manufacturing techniques for both the fibers and the related equipment required to use them.

My main role was to manage many different projects related to the running of facilities on campus. I gained experience in professional communication through speaking with and receiving quotes from different services and contractors. I also used Bluebeam Revu and AutoCAD extensively to update, edit, and create accurate floorplans. Often, I was given the opportunity to lead and manage a group of people assigned a task. I was able to lead multiple teams and manage projects effectively and efficiently. I also have gained a large volume of knowledge on mechanical engineering applications such as HVAC, structural components, and electrical wiring inside buildings. I created an ArcGIS system for the Facilities Department which created an easy way to manage the large amount of items on campus that would otherwise be tedious to see such as fire hydrant locations, tree health status, as well as locations of critical AED packs. All of this valuable experience culminated in growing my mechanical engineering knowledge as well as critical professional skills that have extended to many other aspects of my career.
