    Seeking a new challenge, I gained promotion to the rank of Inspector and having spent the majority of my time as a detective, returned to uniformed response in a management role. I managed three teams of up to 50 police officer for incidents and crime covering half of the whole county. I was responsible for their safety, lawful practice and maintaining the protection of the public. I would be the most senior officer for dynamic serious incidents throughout the whole county, when night duty Inspector. I would represent the police service at community events and I engaged with the community, and visitors to a large area of the county ensuring their needs and expectations were maintained. I was responsible for addressing legal requirements commensurate to my rank, working with members of the public to manage complaints and also to ensure budgets were maintained. As the force subject matter expert, I continued to review serious fraud and financial crime investigations to ensure all proportionate lines of enquiry were completed and ensured victims and databases were updated appropriately. I developed staff through assessments and by imparting my experience and expertise as an investigator, to maximise their effectiveness. I had responsibility for the initial management of major crime scenes, challenging dynamic incidents and the protection of vulnerable people. I continued to be the forces electoral misconduct officer, and carried out significant investigations, including against a former Member of Parliament.I gained a Level 5 diploma in Police Management.

    I was the head of the counties dedicated team of Economic Crime investigators dealing with complex fraud, financial investigations and asset removal. I developed the unit to be an effective omni-competent team of investigators, employing and integrating civilian staff to the role. I was force lead on anti-money laundering investigations (AML) & the Senior Investigating Officer for a number of investigations, including complex national fraud and international money laundering investigations, requiring to work with a number of agencies and police services. This included working with the City of London Police the State of Guernsey Police and NHS Counter Fraud for a significant multi million fraud and international money laundering investigation.I reviewed and updated the counties policies and procedures for fraud and financial crime, sourced and obtained relevant services and products to support crime investigation. I produced and presented highly detailed reports before wide-ranging audiences and and promoted preventative advice for both the organisation and the public. I developed and provided training to officers in the role of asset recovery fraud and financial investigation. I maintained the teams’ internal and external promotional and advisory profile, to maximise knowledge and promote positive action, through the internet, media and other material. I implemented a new fraud reporting process within the county, freeing staff.I maintained my National Crime Agency accreditation, using the Proceeds of Crime Act and the promotion of anti-money laundering (AML) investigations, to tackle criminality within the county and region.I was the Electoral Malpractice officer, working with the Electoral Commission and the local councils, to ensure that elections were appropriately held and any allegation of wrong doing was swiftly investigated.I am experienced in investigating bribery and corruption together with internal investigations with Anti-Corruption Units

    Having moved counties, for the first nine months I took the role of a divisional detective, investigating local crimes. I was soon recruited to the counties Special Branch. Here I developed the role of Counter Terrorism Security Adviser in the county, managing the risk and providing protective and preventative advice to Critical National Infrastructure, together with significant locations and people. I gained a Level 4 City and Guilds award in Counter Terrorism Security management and completed my developmental training through a wide range of courses, to enable me to assess sensitive and significant locations and provide protective advice to reduce or remove the threat or impact from potential vulnerabilities, whether hostile attack or natural impact. I sat on the Lincolnshire Local resilience Forum (LRF) to promote business continuity and developed contacts with local Business Improvement Groups (BIG) and local venues. I used my post to influence managers to implement measures to reduce to the opportunities of terrorism and to enable recovery, by integrating it with crime reduction and natural disaster recovery. This included preparing and carrying out numerous Project Argus seminars, for community groups, businesses and local government, which were multi-media interagency events, presented to around 50 people per event.I would routinely work with partner agencies to maintain the safety of residents and visitors to the county, together with regional and national colleagues.During this time, I continued as an investigator and carried out sensitive operations investigating terrorism and using my financial investigation skills to support gathering evidence and intelligence. I routinely worked with highly sensitive information, ensuring it was protected. I would carry out searches as a specialist investigator and provide local officers advice when required.

    Having started as a probationary officer, I showed skills as an investigator and moved to the CID when I had just completed my initial two years. I developed my interview and investigative skills, and became an integral part of the Canterbury CID, so when a small new proactive targeting team was developed, I was chosen. I worked with colleagues to tackle the small quantity of local criminals who were causing the most disproportionate levels of crime. In doing so, the volume of crime reduced dramatically.In 2002 I moved to the investigative arm of Kent Police Special Branch, and carried out investigations into terrorism, and international organised crime. I carried out investigations into people smugglers, corruption, arms and drugs smuggling and terrorism. I became an expert in anti-money laundering (AML) investigations, removing assets using criminal and civil legislation.I trained as a financial investigator and became the counties expert in counter terrorism financial investigation (CTF). I developed the function and capability to expand my unit to be a dedicated CT Financial Investigation Unit and the largest team outside of the Met Police. I providing training and mentorship to colleagues, I presented cases in court to remove criminal assets and continued to investigate and disrupt terrorism through their finances. I initiated partnerships with other agencies, to integrate financial investigation in order to maximise the effort against criminality.Due to my skills I was seconded to the National Terrorist Financial Investigation Unit and worked with investigators from other countries.For family reasons, I chose to leave Kent Police.
