The degree apprenticeship provides a new route for developing and retaining the future podiatry workforce that is complementary to the academic route, ensuring that graduating apprentices are competent podiatrists able to meet the future needs of employers.Managing a caseload of patients in six different community clinics for routine treatment, annual diabetes assessments with a knowledge of referral pathways. Assisted advanced podiatrists and vascular/diabetic/orthopedic consultants during the diabetic foot team ward rounds and outpatient appointments. Performing pre and post operative wounds, vascular and neurological assessments, offloading, total contact casts and offering health promotion advice to patients using evidence-based guidance. Nail surgery, assisting now for over two years and recently carried out partial and total nail avulsions under supervision following Royal College of Podiatry nail surgery guidelines alongside local trust policies, strategies, and objectives. Assisted the MSK team with bio mechanical assessments, chair-side orthotic manufacture and fitting, footwear advice, exercise prescription, patient education and stock rotation and ordering. Regularly utilising outcome measures such as the visual analogue scale. Spoke placements in 2024 include Surgical Appliances, Foot, and Ankle, Dermatology, Skin Cancer fast track clinic, Orthopedic Plaster room. I was part of the interview panel for the Podiatry apprentice position in June 2024 and recently presented at the Blackpool Teaching Hospital AHP day giving an insight into my Apprentice journey so far.

The main responsibilities of this role entails visiting patients in their own homes across the Fylde coast and attending outreach clinics where you will be required to perform blood capillary collection and venepuncture.
