I leverage primary literature, technical reports, and spatial data to inform marine spatial planning and conservation efforts in collaboration with government officials, NGOs, and other marine stakeholders around the world.

Synthesize a set of guidelines for sustainable aquaculture policy and development from best available literature. Design a stakeholder engagement tool in the form of an interactive web application that visualizes the expected cost and revenue streams associated with starting an aquaculture farm given user inputs. Compile a reference library of satellite imagery depicting various forms of aquaculture to help create a map of production using machine learning techniques.

Lead 2 weekly Introduction to Biology laboratory sessions, outlining key course material, fundamental research techniques, and proper operating protocols. Provide extra academic support and mentoring to 150 undergraduate students through office hours held weekly. Manage course logistics including administering exams, assigning grades, and handling student correspondence.

Performed an analysis of the seafood market in southern Santa Barbara county and its important stakeholders to analyze access barriers faced by traditionally underserved community members. Composed an action plan that identified novel distribution pathways connecting producers to the target group. Assisted with day-to-day SARC activities including research gear construction and maintenance, data collection, and community engagement.

Conducted field and lab work to advance a pilot project that used underwater videography to survey the fish populations of the Santa Barbara Channel. Collected video data along mainland coast, performing ~25 camera drops from vessel on each of 10 boat days. Analyzed 300-400 sample videos using EventMeasure software to compare the results to a traditional diver survey and assess the effectiveness of local marine protected areas.
