I drove the development of advanced analytics capabilities within the agency to inform policy, anticipate and mitigate environmental and public health risks through use of Big Data and Analytics.

I led the Research and Product Development unit, which deployed business intelligence solutions across ACRA's business units, published key statistics regarding the Singapore business landscape and developed ACRA's information product sales. In collaboration with The Business Times, articles were published on emerging trends to inform and engage business leaders. My team also developed advanced analytics to inform policy review and legal reform, profile segments of the business community and deliver customized information products.

I was part of a software engineering team which built an analytics pipeline for screening cancer high-throughput sequencing data - anchoring the calling of somatic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in lung cancer. In addition, I developed analytics to characterize breast cancers from gene expression profiles and their impact on patient's 5-year survival.

Within the department of Haematology and Oncology, I led the identification of recurrent interstitial deletions in MGUS (Monoclonal Gammopathy of Unknown Significance) - a key model for the progression of Multiple Myeloma. Here, I published research on a compendium of copy number and gene expression profiles which segregated non-hyperdiploid and hyperdiploid Multiple Myeloma based on patterns of chromosomal aberrations

I was the original discoverer of the RAP domain - an RNA-binding domain abundant in various apicomplexan parasite genomes (Malaria, etc) and the SMP domain - a structure required for the transfer of phospholipids at the endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondrial encounter structure (ERMES). These discoveries were made possible by an analytical pipeline for rapid comparisons of protein sequences which I developed. The pipeline included a facility for annotating an uncharacterized protein sequence with known domains from CDD, Smart, Prodom, on a database interfaced to the web, with additional functions for motif search. Motif searches further led to identification of a novel mechanism of cancer pathology (TAZ) based on control of cell size through the Hippo pathway. Results were published in leading journals and presented at the American Statistical Association.In collaboration with the Nurcombe lab, I developed gene expression signatures of stemness in adult Mesenchymal stem cells, maintained through binding with specific heparin sulfates. Beyond biomedical research, I managed IT infrastructure projects for IMCB - including the design, procurement and user-acceptance testing of a computing cluster for analysis and annotation of the Fugu genome - a flagship project involving IMCB and an international consortium with the Joint Genome Institute and Sanger Institute. This work was published in the journal Science.
