Ian, a Chartered Surveyor, was until April 2020 a Technical Director in the SLR Environmental & Social Impact Assessment team. He worked in environmental planning for over 30 years. He was employed by a major UK construction materials company (Tarmac Quarry Products Ltd) where he held a number of senior positions responsible for planning, development and estate management in most parts of the UK at various times. In 2000 he moved into environmental consultancy and prior to joining SLR Consulting Ltd was leader of an environmental planning team in the Midlands, part of the environment group, of a major international civil engineering and environmental consultancy (Ove Arup & Partners Ltd.). Throughout the 30+ years Ian has prepared, submitted and managed a wide range of Planning Applications, Environmental Impact Assessments and contributed to multi-modal studies, Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan, Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessments. He has coordinated, as well as prepared and given evidence at, Planning Inquiries. Ian has also advised both vendors and purchasers on property, planning and environmental due diligence. Projects have included, industrial plant, commercial property, windfarm, mixed use regeneration schemes (including leisure and sports facilities), residential development, major greenfield and extension applications for mineral workings and ancillary activity, waste management and recycling (including a hazardous waste repository and landfills) and a variety of conventional and renewable energy, road, rail, sea and aviation infrastructure schemes. Over the years the work has included a smattering of international involvement both remotely and in-country.Retiring into the 'teeth of lockdown' meant post retirement travel aspirations were put on hold, but a second ambition to volunteer with the Severn Area Rescue Association was progressed with difficulty via on-line means. Access to the SARA Wyre Forest Station became possible in July 2021 with Probationer status and training in earnest has begun.
