Virtualization And Unix Systems AdministratorNew Mexico State University 2010 - May 2016Working closely with Networking and Storage administration teams, I was the lead for data center virtualization. Managing a VMware vSphere stretched cluster environment that supported the universities' key systems.As a lead system administrator in the Systems team I was responsible for helping to manage over 150 RedHat Enterprise Linux systems. I implemented and managed RedHat Satellite as part of our OS change control solution. Additionally I deployed RedHat Identity Management to provide centralized account management for key systems.Worked with research faculty throughout the university to help them with using the centrally management High Performance Computing resources available to them. I helped to design a new HPC cluster using CentOS and blade servers to further support faculty.Led several efforts to increase data center OS automation. During this effort we automated the configuration for approximately 3/4 of the RedHat Enterprise Linux servers using Puppet. Also, used Ansible to automate the deployment and configuration of HPC cluster nodes.Developed an initial implementation of VDI using VMware Horizon View to provide virtual computer labs for students. The solution was originally designed to support 200 users and eventually to scale to 500-1000 users. -
Network And Systems AdministratorNew Mexico State University Nov 2003 - Nov 2010Network and Systems administration in the Facilities and Utilities groups within NMSU.Designed and implemented a Cisco DMVPN solution to provide a private network for building automation and utilities infrastructure. Implemented Cisco IOS Zone Based Firewall to provide a true firewall at the edge of the utilities network and support remote access by supporting vendor companies.As part of this team I was responsible for managing the network and compute resources. We managed around 150 Sun Solaris workstations, 15 Sun Solaris servers. We also managed a network environment that supported several hundred users spread across 7 buildings.
