Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist)
CurrentSummary: I work in a grant program providing $2.7 billion of state funding towards water storage projects. My team works to ensure the State receives ecosystem benefits from the project proponents in exchange for this funding. Details:• I have been project manager for three of the projects. I negotiate with project proponents to influence project design, issue permits, craft a monitoring and adaptive management plan, and develop an ecosystem enhancement contract. I coordinate with internal and external stakeholders. • Focus areas include: environmental permitting and CEQA, habitat restoration, wildlife and fisheries management, mitigation, landowner engagement, land conservation and management, climate change, endangered species, groundwater-surface water management and modeling, instream flow, wetlands management and water delivery, GIS analysis, infrastructure projects, and monetization of ecosystem services.• I also participate in: an employee engagement committee, planning meetings and teambuilding events; a coaching and mentoring program for aspiring leaders; a team reviewing grant applications; the social committee.*Note regarding timeline: I worked in this position from 6/5/2019–2/4/2022 (for 2 years and 8 months). I then accepted a promotion to the California Department of Conservation. Unfortunately, this new position was not a good fit, so I returned to this CDFW position on 1/18/2023 and have been there since.
