    Technical Lead performing the role of Technical Design Authority for the communications infrastructure working as part of a dedicated data centre consolidation/migration team. o The objective was to consolidate three existing data centres for Homebase and Argos and migrate all systems to a new purpose built Tier 3 (99.982% availability) shared facility. Involved from the initial design stage with technical authority responsible for LAN, WAN and data cabling infrastructure. Key activities included: The vendor selection for LAN equipment (Alcatel vs. Cisco) the TCO taking into account the power draw and cooling requirements. Design and Tender/selection of cabling partner to install a high availability and resilient cabling design consisting of 97542m of CAT6 Copper Cabling, and 11410m of OM3 Fibre Cabling.o The role required technical leadership as part of a TDA and good presentation skills to share ideas and concepts with a wider audience of varying levels of technical understanding. Strong analytical skills and a good understanding of the business processes were essential in order to gauge and then subsequently execute minimal impact migrations.o A resilient cabling infrastructure was essential to support the split core and End Of Row switching LAN design. Cold Isle Containment has been employed to maximize the cooling efficiencies and allow a higher density of servers.o Split site MPLS WAN and Wavestream backbone enabled a near seamless migration of systems benefiting from triangulated (Active/Active) high availability with failover to the Disaster Recovery site.o The consolidation drove the strategic move to VM and Blade Server technologies which have since enabled a further shift to VDI.
