Training And Facilities Manager (Warrant Officer)British Army Aug 2011 - Jun 2012KenyaI filled the post of Training Area Marshall for the Archers Post Training Area (APTA) DTE (K) for the duration of Assignment to Kenya. I had a broad spectrum of responsibility ranging from provision of subject matter expert advice to exercising troops, facilities management of accommodation and infrastructure including: maintenance of roads, water, fuel, power supply and building of bespoke training facilities and liaison with and coordination of civilian contractors on an area equivalent to half the entire UK training estate. Additionally I was the first point of contact for community liaison on any issue relating to the Archers Post Training Area. I had sole responsibility for management and training of the permanent workforce. Additional responsibilities included coordination and execution of range clearance tasks, the organisation and administration of over 100 Locally Employed Civilians (LEC’s) during the support of military exercises. The remote location meant that I worked totally independent without supervision; in a role that came with significant management difficulties which require dedication, foresight and patience in the planning and execution process. My management of the infrastructure and LEC’s had to be particularly effective whilst more importantly understanding the context of my role and remaining aware of the divergent needs of the user group and short time scales and then responding with effective plans and justifiable use of resource. Encompassed in that is the employment of local civilians for the general maintenance of a forward operating base and Main operating base, also supervision of 36 G4S guards in very austere conditions. -
