I’m an experienced CTO with a BSc (Physics) from Melbourne University, Diploma of Education from Melbourne Teachers College and Diploma of Applied Science (Computing) from Swinburne.My greatest interest is in how geographic information systems and IT can deliver business value when integrated in software applications. I’m a strong believer that GIS and spatial is not ‘special’—rather, it should be a fully integrated part of a business’ software applications. I particularly enjoy learning about new domains and working with experienced, passionate practitioners—farmers, fishers, scientists, geologists and emergency incident responders to name a few.Most of these industries face a similar challenge. We have seen an explosion in the data available, from sources such as satellites, drones or field-based sensors, however turning this data into actionable information remains difficult.The dramatic advances in technology, including cloud and mobile computing and machine learning increasingly allow us to turn data into actionable advice, delivering innovative and effective solutions to customers.
