I'm a keen cyclist and runner myself and as the Transport Co-ordinator for De Montfort University I increased the percentage of staff cyclist to 4-times the national average by introducing practical incentives that made cycling easier and more desirable.Whilst at DMU I was one of the first people to buy Go Travel Solutions' SmartGo staff benefit scheme to encourage employees to use more sustainable transport methods. Transport Co-Ordinator
Responsible for the creation, implementation and promotion of the University's Travel Plan. In the first three years we hit our 5-year target to reduce single-occupancy vehicle use to work; after nine years the numbers of staff cycling to campus was around four times the national average.None of our solutions were rocket science, just schemes and initiatives that made the alternatives easier than driving.
