In June 2018, Ian retired from practice at the Bar in London, where he had specialised in the fields of commercial litigation, banking, employment and professional negligence law, in order to concentrate on his arbitration and ADR practices. Ian is an accredited mediator, having gained accreditation in 2005 from ADR Chambers (UK) Limited. Ian accepts appointments as a mediator in a wide range of commercial and employment disputes. He is highly regarded for his skill in nudging parties towards a negotiated settlement of their disputes.Ian is an evaluator at Independent Evaluation, the leading provider of early neutral evaluation services (www.independentevaluation.org.uk). This is a rapidly growing form of ADR and Ian has gained extensive experience of acting as an evaluator, particularly in property damage cases.Ian has been since 1994 a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, since when he has gained wide experience as an arbitrator. He accepts appointments as an arbitrator to determine disputes in all areas of litigation, in particular sale of goods, commercial contract, partnership, sports law and insurance-claim disputes. Ian also acts as arbitrator in defamation/breach of privacy claims and is on the panel of arbitrators maintained by CIArb for appointment in IMPRESS, the press regulator, disputes.In 2015 he was awarded the CIArb Diploma in International Arbitration, a field in which he has a particular interest. Ian brings experience and a common sense approach to arbitration and is known for his determination to provide timely hearings and prompt decisions. Outside the field of ADR, Ian has considerable experience of workplace investigatory, disciplinary and appeal hearings. Ian also has considerable experience in the professional regulatory field. He sits regularly as a chairman of the Disciplinary, Regulatory and Appeal Committees of one of the largest professional regulators.
