Dr Ian Siggins is Chief Executive of Siggins Miller Consultants. His wife is Mary-Ellen Miller. They have four children, Besha, Eamon, Peter, and Georgina.A research scholar with an international reputation for historical studies, Ian Siggins taught for many years at Yale and Harvard Universities, and has published a range of books and papers on late medieval history, notably on the life and works of Martin Luther, and of the 15th century sermonist, Johann Herolt OP (“Discipulus’). He was a Fulbright scholar and Fellow of the US National Endowment for the Humanities.His many years’ experience in Australia and the US in human and civil rights, as an anti-discrimination commissioner and in health has placed him at the forefront of many reforms to policy. As the foundation health services commissioner in both Victoria and Queensland, he worked creatively with registration boards, medical colleges, professional bodies and defence organisations to maintain clinical and ethical standards and resolve patients’ complaints by thorough investigation and where possible conciliation. He was previously Assistant and then Acting Commissioner for Equal Opportunity in Victoria. He has been a member of the NHMRC, the Council of the University of Melbourne, a lecturer in Community Medicine at Melbourne University Medical School, and an Associate in Forensic Medicine at Monash Medical School. - He helped draft NHMRC’s guidelines for doctors on giving information to patients, and chaired its development of national recommendations on organ and tissue donation- He designed and conducted community consultation and policy development for Australia’s first Code of Health Rights and Responsibilities, including extensive consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander regional and urban communities- He was a member and convener of the review of the Victoria Medical Practitioners Act, the Queensland Medical Act, and the Queensland Mental Health Act
