These programs are integrated to provide capability for:• fellow employees to recogise the impact of fellow team members on both the business capability and spirit of collaboration and team work.• managers to underscore behaviours , values and discretionary effort that has positively impacted the performance and culture of the organisation.• customer to feedback the positive personal interactions that has impacted their experience and likely future choice of airline.These programs are accessed by approximately 36,000 employees plus our customers. In 2013 the programs attracted over 30,000 nominations – over 6000 from customers.The hallmarks of these progams can be characerised by their:• Ease of access by all employees and customers alike within the IT capability of the organization• Integration with existing communication channels• Meaningful rewards that reflects on the quality of the organisation and adds value to the employee's experience of the company.• Financial sustainability• Ability to reflect the leadership ‘shadow’ of the senior managers of the company.At Qantas we have demonstrated that successful employee recognition programs are not an ‘add water and stir strategy’ but rather a genuine and sincere long term enabler for managers to:• articulate pride in the success of the business through the contributions of their employees• demonstrate a personal and effective leadership style typified by the courage to openly recognise excellence.• encourage and foster personal responsibility, ownership and empowerment for all employees to exceed expectations. • help create a sense of ‘belonging’ for the customer that shows that their voice is heard and acted upon.
