Ian Thomas has undertaken key consultancy and advisory roles with airports, airlines, governments, international aid agencies in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific, Middle East and Asia over the past 21 years. His particular focus is on business planning and development, policy and strategy and aviation market and industry analysis. As the Manager Consulting for CAPA Consulting, Ian has been involved in more than 200 projects for a broad range of clients, including Boeing, Lockheed, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, APEC, ASEAN, AusAID, state and federal governments and Civil Aviation Authorities in Singapore, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and various airports. He recently conducted an air service supply study; business planning analysis for a start-up airline; analysis of the airline industry and Low Cost Carrier development in Asia; a review of Australian Aviation Sector; and headed a team developing activity forecasts for a proposed new airport in Australia. As a consultant to World Bank, Ian has undertaken various assignments including a business plan for the Pacific Aviation Safety Office and aviation strategies for Tonga and Kiribati. Other substantial projects include a strategic framework and draft agreement for ASEAN's Single Aviation Market; reviewing aviation liberalisation within APEC; a policy review for Vietnam; advisory work for Australian and New Zealand airports; and development of aviation strategies for four state governments.Before becoming a consultant, Ian worked as a journalist for 24 years in Australia and the UK, as Aviation Writer for the Australian Financial Review; a Contributing Editor for Air Transport World, Air Finance Annual and Commercial Aviation Report; and was President of the Australasian Aviation Press Club.
