Mr Todd is a founding Managing Director of Ocean Science Consulting Limited (OSC), and is undertaking part-time postgraduate research in acoustics and ecology of the harbour porpoise at Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (PhD, Southampton University). He holds degrees in Marine Resource, Development & Protection (NERC scholarship-funded MSc, Heriot-Watt University) and Business & Economics (BCom with Honours, Edinburgh University), various diplomas including Marine Engineering (HND, Glasgow College of Nautical Studies), and a Marine Engineering Officer Certificate of Dual Competency (Class IV Steam and Motor Plants, Maritime & Coastguard Agency). As a former engineer officer (incl. HSE) in the Merchant Navy, he served deep-sea and worldwide with P&O Nedlloyd, then the world's largest container-shipping company. Mr Todd has supervised visual and acoustic surveys of marine mammals worldwide for scientific, commercial and defence contracts, for which he is a JNCC and NPWS Marine Mammal Observer (MMO), BOEM Protected Species Observer (PSO), and Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) operator. Mr Todd is also involved in a range of other scientific and environmental services, such as noise measurement and acoustic propagation modelling, and Marine Mammal Mitigation Plans (MMMPs) and risk assessments. He possesses current health, safety and survival certificates for vessel and offshore operations. Research interests include bioacoustics and distance sampling (statistical methodology to estimate biological populations).Specialties: In addition to above, survey design and project management, field equipment installation and technical support, measurement and analyses, advice documents and literature reviews, power-boat and small vessel skippering, chart-work and position fixing, scientific SCUBA diving and photography (terrestrial and underwater).
