McCormick is a worldwide leader in the production of Herbs, Spices and Condiments. At the Littleborough plant, they produce wet products for the likes of McDonalds, KFC and Subway.Starting as a Machine Operator in the Packing Hall, I worked both 2 and 3 shift patterns, and gained experience across all production lines, and was given responsibility for supervising 3 lines. In 2002 I graduated to an office based job, responsible for the update and improvement of the Downtime Database. Having successfully completed that task, I was asked to take on the role of Hygiene Supervisor as the Hygiene Manager had been made redundant. This role included the supervision of a Factory and Office cleaning team, and procurement of indirect consumables. In 2005 I was promoted to Site Services Team Leader, and expanded the Department to include Building Maintenance, Site Wide Hygiene and third party control. This led to my Direct Report being removed and I was given overall responsibility for the Department. During this time I also drove a reduction in waste streams, achieving a 50% saving on landfill waste and implementing new systems on recycling product waste and effluent. The third largest university in the UK, Manchester caters for thousands of students from home and abroad and employs an equally large staff. The campus extends from Oxford Road, close to the City Centre to Fallowfield in South Manchester.Employed as an In House Security Officer, reporting to a Supervisor, my duties included both foot and vehicular patrols of the large campus area. Dealing daily with situations as diverse as directing students to buildings, to tackling street robberies, and holding offenders until handing them over to the Police. This gave me a great grounding in multi cultural diversity and thinking 'On my feet', having to make decisions in seconds, and getting it right.

I served in the Army with pride for 17 years. Employed as a clerk in the Royal Signals, my service took me mainly to Germany and Northern Ireland, but my best posting was with 249 Signal Squadron in Bulford, Wiltshire. This was part of the Ace Mobile force and took us to places such as Norway, Italy and Turkey. I was responsible for the movement of all personnel, vehicles and equipment, by Air, Sea and onward land movement, through many agencies. This job entailed lots of forward planning, attention to detail and organisation. Traits which have remained with me ever since. Unfortunately, I was part of the redundancy phase in 1994 and left at the Rank of Sergeant.
