About Ian Usher

As a seasoned cybersecurity leader, I bring a unique blend of academic rigor, law enforcement expertise, and strategic vision to the field. My journey began with a deep dive into the human factors influencing security, where I spent five years studying motivations, behaviour, and group dynamics. This academic foundation has been instrumental in shaping my holistic approach to cybersecurity. My career took a pivotal turn during my five years as a Police Firearms Officer in a counter-terrorism unit, where I safeguarded critical national infrastructure. My experience in specialist firearms teams provided me with a profound understanding of tactical operations, and the role of timely and actionable threat intelligence which is invaluable for identifying and mitigating threats.Transitioning into cybersecurity, I retrained and joined NCC Group, where I have advanced from a Threat Intelligence (TI) Analyst to the Director of TI. In this role, I introduced threat intelligence to our Security Operations Center (SOC), consolidated threat intelligence activities which were operating independently, and built a global team that delivers world-class threat intelligence products. These products provide strategic, operational, and tactical insights to our customers, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the complex threat landscape.
