In 2007 I purchased the assets of Scott-Grant Limited's Technical Services business in Scotland. This company, based in Motherwell were a long standing provider of labour along with their core business of productivity to the engineering industry. MAA International Limited was then born and as owner/Managing Director of MAA International I have been leading from the front dealing with local Lanarkshire businesses and supporting them with all their engineering recruitment requirements, whether it permanent or temporary staffing. I still have close links with Scott Grant Limited and we still share the same building and some clients too. My aim at MAA International is to:• Supply and support local engineering business with local labour on either permanent or temporary form.• Become a leading provider in Lanarkshire and an industry standard.• Bring awareness of industry standards to other agencies so that we can bring our industry and the people that are in it to a new higher level of competence and level playing field.• Bring awareness to our candidates that standards are required to be met by all in the industry so that agents are valued to a higher degree.• To ensure that our governing body - The Recruitment and Employment Federation’s (REC) rules and regulations are maintained on every occasion.• To bring together people from every engineering company so that work stays within the Lanarkshire area wherever possible.

I set up Alexander Contracting Services Limited in 1990 in the most depressing times that hit the Lanarkshire area, the closure of BSC Ravenscraig. Although a devastating and hard hitting time for all engineers Alexander's pulled through with sheer determination and a great team behind me. I took this company from a self starter to a turnover of just over £3m. Our core business was still engineering but we diversified into secretarial, electronics and construction. I sold this business after an offer was made in 1999 by Recruit Plc and stayed on as Managing Director until 2000.

I joined this company in 1987 firstly as Branch Manager and then a year later I became the Regional Manager. I was responsible for opening and the success of the Edinburgh and Aberdeen branch. The main core of business at Bertram Personnel was Construction and Engineering. I joined the company when it was run by Mrs Bertram and then taken over by Adia.

On leaving Bell College I immediately entered the Recruitment Industry with HMS Personnel, Paisley, Glasgow, Bellshill, I started my career in Paisley, was then moved to Glasgow where I was running a plan of 100 temporary drivers and warehousing staff. I also opened the Bellshill branch and ran this for some time and then left to further my career with Bertrams.
