Ian is a Law Clerk at Freshfields US LLP in Washington, DC. Ian graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in international affairs and journalism and with certificates in entrepreneurship and global issues. There, he wrote his undergraduate thesis on U.S. export controls, for which he was awarded graduation distinction by the UGA Honors College. He earned his J.D. from NYU Law in 2024. Prior to joining Freshfields, Ian served as an assistant to Dr. Nilüfer Oral, Co-Chair of the Study Group on sea-level rise in relation to international law, at the United Nations International Law Commission in Geneva, Switzerland, as a Student Advisor to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Palau to the United Nations in New York City, and as a research intern for a trade controls consultancy firm. Ian has authored academic and journalistic publications on national security, U.S. sanctions, the World Trade Organization treaties, and United Nations proceedings.
