HDWR is an iOS app for skateboarders where you can connect with other skaters, share tricks, and find new places to skate.I shared all development responsibilities across the stack (iOS, backend, web) with one other developer. • Developed native iOS app in Swift • Integrated with a Parse.com backend/datastore • Implemented custom, tested Parse.com webhooks and business logic in CoffeeScript • Built custom UI elements to design (e.g. Switches, Segmented Controls, Navigation Header, Checkboxes) • Used AV Foundation framework APIs extensively to capture, resize, encode and play video • Optimized the main feed's UITableView cell structure and asset management to minimize laggy scrolling while loading media and playing videos • Managed media transcoding and storage pipeline with Amazon services (SNS, Elastic Transcoder, S3) • Helped build small Rails app to integrate Amazon services with core app • Built responsive website with dynamic post pages that include HTML5 video playback and structured metadata for sharing on social media

Yerdle is a social marketplace for free stuff. By making reuse easy and affordable, yerdle helps reduce the number of things we have to buy new.As a full-stack web developer and yerdle's first full-time development hire, I helped build and support the yerdle service throughout its evolution and scaled yerdle's backend to serve several thousands of users. We followed Agile development practices, pair-programmed often, and unit-tested everything. The backend stack I contributed to included Rails, Postgres, Redis and Backbone.Some memorable projects and responsibilities include:• Migrated the early web app and its data from MongoDB to Postgres• Setup inventory indexing with ElasticSearch• Implemented a double-entry booking system for keeping track of virtual currency and transactions• Built yerdle's core JSON API, following RESTful patterns• Worked closely with yerdle's mobile developers as the main designer and maintainer of yerdle's API• Optimized SQL queries and database usage across the backend to improve performance• Wrote complex database queries for metrics and engagement insights• Built a system to manage and organize all transactional emails, messages and notifications• Implemented most of yerdle's web front-end (using tools like SASS, Bootstrap and Backbone.js)

Co-founded with Tim Hwang and Max Nanis, PacSocial focused on projects researching the ability for bots to shape group social behavior online.We designed, built and maintained a distributed application for the purpose of creating, configuring, running and managing hundreds of autonomous Twitter accounts. The bulk of the stack was implemented in Ruby and MySQL but also included JavaScript, Python, R and PHP.
