I am a pensions lawyer and problem solver. My focus is on delivering technical excellence on pensions risk transfer and leading on the latest developments in pensions law. I'm motivated by creating practical solutions explained in plain English to resolve complex issues.I provide dedicated technical support to Gowling WLG's Pensions Risk Transfer Group. As part of this work, I develop new products and innovative ways of working. I am also responsible for knowledge capture and sharing, enabling the risk transfer team to get the most out of their industry-leading experience. Since joining Gowling WLG in 2007, I have led on projects that shaped how the pensions team responded to legal developments and industry trends. As part of this work, I have solved problems created by new pensions legislation and policy and created innovative, practical and commercial solutions for trustees, sponsoring employers and pensions industry clients. A clear highlight of my career has been work to set up new pension plans (including Nest and the Wm Morrisons Cash Balance Scheme) that help millions of people in the UK save for their future. As part of this, I worked closely with government departments, public bodies, employers and providers. My work enabled them to use workplace pension reform as an opportunity to reengage with their workforce on pensions.I have also developed practical and cost-effective solutions for pension trustees grappling with the data protection and security issues under the GDPR. My creative and member-friendly communications ensured trustee compliance with the new law whilst delivering material cost savings. I am a passionate communicator and advocate for plain English. I have a strong belief that pensions can and should be made accessible to everyone. I regularly speak at internal and external training events and I have developed an innovative range of online training tools.
