Catalyst Energy Advisors is a boutique consulting firm focused on accelerating access to modern energy services in developing countries. We work with entrepreneurs, DPs, governments, and investors to tackle strategic, operational, financial, programmatic, and policy challenges associated with the energy access sector. Recent assignments include:• Supporting the Rockefeller Foundation's Power & Climate program with strategy development, energy system GHG modeling, RE technology tracking and cost analysis, and a variety of ad-hoc initiatives• Leading M&E tool development for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, estimating carbon, access, and job impacts of key projects• Leading pipeline development and conducting financial DD for VentureBuilder, an investment vehicle supporting African-owned and managed OGS companies• Managed the development and delivery of an RBF Diagnostic & Design tool for SEforALL to support health electrification planning and programs• Supported the design and delivery of the BRILHO Market Development Fund in Mozambique, and conducted DD on local mini-grid and OGS companies• Conducted commercial DD of several multi-national last-mile distribution companies with activities across SSA for international investors, focusing on unit economics, sales targets, and PUE opportunities• Co-authored the report ‘Lasting Impact – Sustainable Off-Grid Solar Delivery Models to Power Health and Education’ for the United Nations Foundation• Developed comprehensive models estimating OGS, mini-grid, and clean cooking financing needs to achieve SDG 7 in Uganda, Madagascar, and the Philippines for SEforALL’s 'Taking the Pulse' report• Led the quantitative analysis supporting the design of an off-grid strategy (covering standalone and mini-grid technologies) for the Republic of Uganda• Developed a predictive model to estimate the financing needs required to achieve SDG 7 in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030, for the Shell Foundation

• Worked to boost energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa through the World Bank's Lighting Africa program and various country-level initiatives• Led the design of the $55 million off-grid solar component of the LEAD project in Madagascar, including RBF, credit line, and health-center electrification windows and supported program implementation• Led Lighting Africa's activities in Rwanda (2015-2017), acting as an advisor to the government on its efforts to electrify 70% of the country’s households via primarily off-grid modalities by 2018• Developed an off-grid solar options analysis for the Government of Ethiopia to inform the structuring of off-grid interventions under the recently-launched National Electrification Program• Developed an off-grid solar action plan for the Government of Botswana, targeting unelectrified households and public institutions• Performed pre-feasibility analysis for a utility-scale solar PV + battery storage project in the Comoros• Provided key technical support for the development of the World Bank's off-grid and utility-scale solar strategies in Sub-Saharan Africa• Managed off-grid solar consumer awareness and results-based financing (RBF) projects in Senegal and Mali, respectively• Managed a business model study on private-sector-led clean cookstove and fuel distribution to base-of-the-pyramid populations in Sub-Saharan Africa

• Co-managed the build-out of Haiti's first prepay solar microgrid, a USAID-supported project aiming to demonstrate affordable, scalable solutions to reducing energy poverty in the developing world• Designed, procured, and performed installation management for the entire distribution system, including organizing the selection, purchase, transport, and customs clearance for all materials• Managed a team of a dozen Haitian and Dominican laborers, linemen, and engineers; communicated with colleagues, workers, and residents in four languages on a daily basis• Provided key logistical support for the build-out of the system’s ground-mounted solar arrays

• Managed the firms’s carbon consulting offerings and Carbon Strategy Service (CSS), which benchmarked the corporate positioning, emissions disclosure, GHG performance, and low-carbon energy investments (renewables, carbon capture and storage) of 30 of the world’s largest oil and gas companies; market cap. of clients > $600 billion• Won and managed a retainer with one of the most environmentally-conscious NOCs, performing GHG accounting and disclosure analysis and upstream emissions performance benchmarking• Led investigation of Chinese-government support for solar PV manufacturing and the outlook for local demand for an international energy firm with interests in c-Si PV cell and panel production• Participated in speaking engagements at numerous events, including energy conferences, roundtables, and company workshops• Drafted a range of studies on topics including US EPA regulation of GHGs, the Australian carbon tax and LNG exports, US vehicle fleet gasification, Obama’s energy goals, and CCS in oil sands production• Conducted an assessment of the environmental impacts of natural gas (lifecycle GHG emissions in power generation, CO2 by sector, IPCC view of the fuel) for an international trade group• Managed and executed a thorough biannual analysis of the national carbon policies of over 80 countries for use in the CSS’s GHG regulatory exposure profiles• Led an analysis of China’s alternative energy policies and carbon targets under its 12th Five-Year Plan for an influential intergovernmental organization

• Managed a comprehensive energy industry trend analysis project in support of the CEO and COO of a Middle-Eastern alternative energy development firm• Conducted impact assessment of federal and provincial government regulatory proposals to constrain emissions from Canadian oil sands development for an energy-focused private-equity firm• Represented PFC Energy at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conferences in Barcelona and Copenhagen; monitored potential global policy ramifications and executed and communicated preliminary energy industry impact assessment• Led an in-depth study of the expected cost and demand impacts of Phase III of the EU’s emissions trading system on the bloc's refineries for a European industry trade group

• Co-developed PFC’s Carbon Strategy Service (CSS) and associated carbon capabilities• Created a comprehensive rating system for benchmarking company GHG emissions accounting and reporting practices• Jointly developed bottom-up Excel models for determining oil and gas company structural GHG emissions from upstream and refining operations, covering every new oil and gas field and all of the world's major refineries (>600)• Produced a wide range of reports covering corporate quality of carbon disclosure, upstream and downstream emissions performance and regulatory exposure, and investments in low-carbon energy

• Performed quarterly predictive and post-hoc downstream (refining, marketing) earnings analysis of the six 'major' oil and gas companies for one of said players• Analyzed quarterly earnings performance of a major European downstream oil company relative to a local competitor for the former’s primary stakeholder, factoring in asset complexity and class of trade• Researched and drafted a > 100 page profile of the Italian downstream oil market, focusing on competitor positioning, segment profitability, and refinery upgrades
