Research and Exploratory Development DepartmentBiomedical Engineering GroupAs a member of APL's experimental biomechanics team, Mr. Wing both led and contributed to research and development activity relating to human injury and performance. Representative projects include: development of a human head and neck model to study blast injury, mechanics-based methods for standoff detection of person-bourne IEDs, a methodology and tool to standardize helmet fit for evaluative testing, and numerous live fire blast and ballistics field tests.Key customers supporting this research included: US Army Natick Soldier Research Development & Engineering Center, the Office of Naval Research, US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, and US Special Operations Command.In addition to his technical responsibilities, Ian maintained a stake in the development of APL's future leaders - managing the department's summer intern program and sitting on the departmental mentoring committee.
