With the closure of BP's Bulwer Island refinery I decided to take a long overdue break. I'm now feeling refreshed, re-energized and ready rejoin the workforce.

Act as Site Single Point of Accountability for Element 4.3 'Information Management and Document Control' and Element 4.1 'Procedures and Practices' of BP's Operating Management System.Act as Site Single Point of Accountability for Digital Security and BP's 'OneRefining' Intranet for Bulwer. As the business owner led a project with cross functional teams to design and deliver a new Electronic Document Management System to the business. Implemented a new Records Management System ensuring compliance with statutory and business requirements Initiated and implemented new business processes and automated workflows to meet rapidly changing needs. Manage access and permissions for site applications controlled and/or maintained by Knowledge Management. Initiated and implemented Change Management processes for the Knowledge Management team and applications managed for the site. Engaged the BP global community to establish a knowledge transfer to communities of interest in preparation for the refinery closure.Managed the Revenue and Capital budgets for the Knowledge Management area.

Single point accountability for the integrity, availability, development and maintenance of the Refinery control systems (DCS), development and maintenance of advanced and regulatory controls, alarm and operating envelope management, Control System applications and Plant Data Historians and the operator training simulation applications. Provided support for TAR’s and projects impacting control systems, managing the budget and controlling expenses and managing and developing the personnel within the group.Business Unit (BU) representative in BP's advanced control continuous improvement forum. Lead a multi-disciplined team of engineers and system specialists to deliver the advanced control team program of works. Developed the 10 year upgrade plan for the Refinery control systems, including the business and technical cases.Implemented and managed the program of projects required to execute the 10 year upgrade plan for the refinery control systems.Implemented an asset management system for the Refinery control systems, advanced control systems, emergency shutdown systems and plant data historians. Led a cross functional project to create high performance operator graphics for the refinery control systems. Developed new Alarm Management policy and practices as member of a multi-discipline team. Represented BP as a senior member of the global steering committee with our automation vendor Invensys

Provided site specific expertise in the maintenance of the control system hardware and software, regulatory and advanced controls and system applications, through either major project team activity, TAR support, individual contribution, or control system change request procedure. Contributed to unit optimisation and BU bottom line performance by applying sound advanced control principles and ensuring existing applications were utilised effectively. Provided continual support and development on the operator training systems, alarm database and plant data historian. Managed assigned budget for special projects and trouble-shooting as required. Initiated a program of works to improve control system performance, stability and reliability. Developed a project to provide the refinery with a standardized set of graphics that mimicked the functionality of the control system providing a graphical view of the process to the business. Instituted new functionality to enhance the control system disaster recovery capabilities. Initiated a program to develop the control systems cyber security program to meet current best practices. Developed the standards for interfacing the site Emergency Trip systems (Triconex) to the Refinery control system (Foxboro I/A). Managed the contracted quarterly maintenance visits by the Vendors Service Engineers to ensure maximum benefit achieved. Elected as Chairman of Australian / New Zealand users group for our automation vendor Invensys.

Seconded to the Refinery Engineering team as a technical resource for a number of major projects including the Central Control Building and Y2K projects.Provide expertise in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of site Instrument Control and Electrical systems, including PLC, SCADA, Telemetry, Distributed Control and Safety Instrumented Shutdown systems.Senior technical resource for the Y2K remediation and assurance activities for all Control System, Instrumentation and Electrical equipment.Senior technical resource for the Central Control Building project, developing methodologies for live cutover of plant to new control systems in new control center.Team member for developing programming standards for new Safety Instrumented Systems, including policies and procedures for override functionality.

Greenfields commissioning of the Control, Instrument and Electrical Systems for a new Steel Rolling Mill.Developing and tuning PLC software for the rolling mill, associated furnace and water treating systems.Performance testing of mill during commissioning and final customer acceptance testing.Establish maintenance requirements and programs.

Based in the Central Instrument workshop provide expertise for the installation, maintenance and repair of Instrument and Control systems across the plant, including Distributed Control Systems, PLC, Telemetry and Alarm Systems.

Trained as Electrical Fitter Mechanic 2 years, transferred to Instrument Department in 3rd year then to Central Instrument shop electronic group in 4th year.
