I joined Skynet as a developer working on enhancements to their accountancy software suite. I was quickly promoted to team leader, heading a small team of developers responsible for producing all software releases for the QA team.After several months I was promoted to Senior Developer and moved onto the design and development of a new replacement enterprise product This used an n-Tier design, with Delphi 3 and MIDAS with MS SQL Server. Whilst at Skynet I also helped design and develop the in-house VBA workflow processes based around Microsoft Exchange and Outlook.Technologies used: Delphi 1 and 3, Paradox 5.x database, MS SQL Server 6.5

I joined as a Paradox for Windows consultant just as the company were migrating their development to Delphi. As a consultant I was required to meet with clients to discuss their requirements before designing and implementing a suitable solution. These included my first commercial Delphi client/server application, for a Special Metals Re-processing company and several Paradox for Windows applications for the supermarket chain Sainsburys.Technologies used: Paradox for Windows 5.x, Delphi 1, Interbase 3.

Initially, I was responsible for maintenance and development of all PC-based Payphone Management Systems worldwide. I was also responsible for much customer support and training as well as providing support to the Sales and Marketing departments when required.Chosen to co-develop a new Windows based Payphone Management System, which was to manage up to 2000 payphones from all existing and future payphone ranges.My final project was a full Headquarters/Regional countrywide system, based on the above system, for Argentina. This system utilised regional PC-based systems, each catering for 2000 Smart and Credit Card payphones, reporting to and synchronising with a VAX Open VMS Headquarters system.Technologies used: Paradox for Windows 1.0, 4.5 and 5.x, Dataflex 2.2b and 2.3c, C, VB 3.0, VAX DCL.

My first job, a cut-down apprenticeship, with one day a week spent on a specialised electronics and telecommunications college course. I gained experience of many areas of the business, including writing event-driven Assembler code for Payphones and support and trouble shooting in the Network Support department.
