► Hedge Fund Structuring and ManagementA Cayman Islands managed account platform had been on the company’s wish list for over a year. I was assigned this project the day I started with the company. I built a scalable trading platform in six months, and over the course of the following year added a series of feeder funds. The platform could handle unlimited growth in assets under management; it was the foundation on which the company could build its future.► Business OperationsInspired by the Quality Management Systems used in the manufacturing industry, I took the initiative to author procedures and institute controls. These streamlined processes allowed the company to get more done, faster and with fewer people.► Marketing and StrategyOur marketing materials had grown out of control, each new generation spawning documents riddled with inconsistencies. I implemented a robust document control system including a library of approved graphics and exhibits. I coupled this with a corporate branding standard applied across all communication media. Simple processes ensured identical updates flowed naturally into all our marketing materials conveying a consistent and professional image.Our company lacked a unique selling proposition in an increasingly competitive market dominated by ever-larger players. I devised and presented a series of corporate strategy options that would give us a niche from which to compete. ► Director of Research (May 2014 – August 2015)To bring more rigor to our portfolio construction process I built a statistical toolkit including cluster analysis, robust statistical approaches, and detection of change algorithms. These tools identified inconsistencies between CTAs' self-described strategies and their strategies as inferred from the data. We gained insight into portfolio tail risk and the ability to monitor CTA style drift.

Building on a life-long obsession with systematic solutions to business problems and a fascination with math, I was bitten by the systematic trading bug. With a gap in my management consulting assignments, I took the opportunity to dive into the puzzle of trading system design.► Trading system analysis and designIn my quest to learn about systematic trading, I built two different trading strategies. The first was a simple adaptive system built primarily as a learning exercise. The second system employed discrete wavelet transforms to separate and trade price action on different time frames. In the process, I learned valuable lessons about the importance of data quality, simplicity vs. complexity, risk management, optimization, and curve fitting.► Quantitative consulting for alternative investmentsOut of my trading system work, I developed a series of statistical tools to help alternative investors delve deep into manager selection, portfolio construction, and allocation. By using Monte Carlo simulations, an investor could optimize their preferred objective function subject to any constraints they chose.After I presented these tools to The Bornhoft Group, they offered me a position.

My goal in creating Silver Street Consulting was to offer growth-consulting services to smaller manufacturing companies that ordinarily would not have access to such advice. Working closely with our clients we developed strategies for growth, and turned those strategies into the everyday reality of business operations.For example, a custom industrial gasket manufacturer needed to grow to avoid becoming obsolete; we re-tooled the entire company’s strategy, operations and sales:► We helped the company acquire a competitor and consolidate the two factories into one smooth operation. ► Due to a product failure, our client almost lost a major customer. In response, we implemented an ISO 9000 Quality System, receiving certification inside of nine months. The client retained the customer who ultimately doubled their purchases.► We slashed manufacturing backlog from 4 weeks to 2 days, and reduced sales quote times from days to minutes. As a result of this overhaul, the company tripled sales and increased profits 8-fold in 5 years.
