Helping National Highways and the UK on its journey to Net Zero by improving the EV charging infrastructure on the Strategic Road Network.

Designing and running the operational programme to enable British Gas to meet all Energy Company Obligation (ECO) targets. Leadership to a team of up to 45 people, achieving great upper quartile engagement scores. Oversight of an evolving and complex framework of systems, processes and controls, with responsibility for the governance and assurance for >£10m spend per month. Supporting a diverse third-party supply chain to fund and guarantee the regulatory compliance of >6k energy efficiency installations per month in customers’ homes. Leading the interpretation, communication and application of legislation to give clarity and purpose across the internal business, the regulator, and the supply chain – with industry leading results. Maximising commercial value whilst fulfilling the obligations, as part of the exec board that reviews and approves ECO performance, finance and strategy. Responsibility for risk, mitigation, and resolving issues of non-compliance and fraud. Best in class performance in all internal and external audits, and assisted the Internal Audit team reviewing other areas of the business.

Translating regulations into an operational compliance framework and technology ecosystem. Evaluating the suitability of energy reduction schemes (district heating, biomass heating, social housing projects) to achieve their inclusion in the ECO programme. Right-sizing processes and resourcing to achieve the compliant delivery of energy improvements to half a million homes during this period (saving 15MtCO2 over installation lifetime). Responsible for the communications to internal and external delivery channels to transition from a previous obligation regime to ECO. Assisting the Smart Meter programme by taking responsibility for the Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice (SMICOP), a code of conduct which determines customer-facing standards.

Formed the strategic plan for compliant ECO delivery, scoped systems and processes, and recruited the inaugural team required to deliver ECO. Navigated various regulations and accreditation requirements to set up British Gas as a “Green Deal” company eligible to operate in the newly formed government loans scheme to finance and stimulate householder investment in energy efficiency. Completed the various regulatory MI, analysis and reporting tasks to close down a large-scale legislated obligation.

Negotiated and acted as contract relationship manager for several multi-£m contracts to fund energy saving improvements with blue chip companies including BT, Sky, P&G, Sony and Sainsburys. Supported the internal insulation business with compliance guidance, MI and reporting.

Created and owned projects developing and distributing energy saving devices to millions of domestic customers (including two million in-home energy displays that formed the model for Smart Meter IHDs).

Managed change team and back-office processes and systems to support the energy field sales team, including running a payroll and commission scheme for several thousand direct employees onboarding 4m electricity customers.

Responsible for the quality and compliance of a heavily regulated field sales force. Designed and project-led a the implementation of a complaint handling system rolled out to all British Gas contact centres.

Analyst responsible for forecasting customer growth, and tracking new customers to live billing.
