About Ian Sanders

I lead Portfolio Development for Munich Re Ventures (MRV), Munich Re's $1B+ venture capital arm based in San Francisco. MRV is a leading early-stage investor focused on the intersection of technology and risk. Risk-adjacent technologies create, reduce, mitigate, or transfer risk. MRV works across sectors including InsurTech, Cybersecurity & Privacy, ClimateTech, HealthTech, Equipment Technologies, and Transportation. MRV is a financially focused planform, investing as a lead or part of the syndicate from series seed though Series B. In addition, MRV is strategic for Munich Re and the broader insurance industry as it plays the role of connector between entrepreneurs and the world’s incumbent risk takers. My team is tasked with maximizing the value of the MRV’s platform for both our portfolio companies and LPs. We support our portfolio companies with business development, strategic partnerships & exits, talent & executive hiring, etc. In addition, we work closely with our LPs to develop strategic perspectives, structure and negotiate strategic partnerships, and oversee effective execution with startups.
