I am a PhD candidate at UCSF, mentored under PI Dr. Carlo Condello at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases. My thesis project leverages novel transgenic models to study the kinetics of tau pathology and neurodegeneration. The broader goal of this work is to identify new drug targets that could lead to disease-modifying therapies. Prior to UCSF, I gained three years of industry research experience with a focus on small-molecules to treat age-related diseases. My academic coursework through the UCSF Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics program as well as my undergraduate degree in pharmacology at UC Santa Barbara have provided me a broad knowledge of core pharmacological principles including PK/PD relationships and physiological pathways.

Research Assistant, Protein BiochemistryWaite Research Lab Apr 2015 - Dec 2016University Of California, Santa Barbara Marine Biotechnology LaboratoryThe Waite Research Lab is a Protein Biochemistry lab where the overarching research theme involves understanding structure-function relationships in load- or impact-bearing materials made by marine organisms.During my time in the Waite Lab, I investigated metal-mediated interactions at the byssal thread interface using a combination of quartz crystal microbalance and atomic force microscopy. Additionally, I utilized protein chemistry to characterize native proteins in mussel adhesive plaques. Altogether, my experience in the Waite Lab helped me develop a wealth of knowledge with regards to protein purification and characterization. This position also helped me become proficient in a variety of laboratory techniques including: Protein extraction and purification, amino acid analysis, high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC), Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM), Acid-Urea gel electrophoresis, SDS Polyacrylamide Gel electrophoresis, PCR, Western Blot, cell culture/recombinant expression, and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry. As a part of the Waite Research Lab, undergraduate interns work closely with graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and professors on various projects to help develop a strong understanding of the research process. All members of the lab group attend weekly meetings to hear and critique the current projects of other members. Each undergraduate intern works on their own independent research project. The progress of the project is presented to the entire lab group at the end of each quarter. This helps develop important communication and collaboration skills that are necessary for success within the scientific community.
