Supported the Corporate Real Estate Unit, which operates and maintains over 3 million sq. ft. of office space in Washington, DC. Projects included:COVID Preparedness:- Supported the development and implementation of COVID reopening plans for domestic and international facilities. This plan is currently in use, and buildings are partially open. Routine Facilities Maintenance and Construction:- Researched methods for further integration of green and smart technology into facilities operations. As a result, WBG intends to implement the use of renewable energy credits. - Participated in the organization of daily facilities maintenance projects. a stairwell renovation project, which is now complete.- Participated in daily communications with various contractors and corporate planning.This internship provided insight into the complexities of building pandemic preparedness, working in a fully remote format, facilities construction and maintenance, bureaucratic organization operations, and industry standards and practices.

Research focused on developing a smart home system that integrated with the existing building HVAC system. This process was achieved by coding with Raspberry Pis using C++ and Python to integrate with stepper motors and infrared sensors. Developed a wiring harness for the system components and used CAD to develop the air diffuser's mechanical system. Using IoT, the system integrated with the user's phone allowing for heightened convenience and energy savings. The smart controller had motor control ability integrated with sensors to detect user and room activities to ensure the most efficient environment.Research was conducted under the supervision of Farrokh Jazizadeh, Ph.D., Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
