Although I generally have worked with wind turbines for many years, the sensor systems in the turbines has been my primary area. This as there will often be one or more sensors involved when a problem occurs or when a problem is to be solved. It has given me extensive knowledge and experience of the problems that can occur when sensors are used for demanding applications in a harsh environment. I have often specified concrete requirements for the sensors to be used, and part of my job was to test the sensors against these requirements. At the same time I have participated in the mechanical challenges regarding installation and adjustment of the various solutionsWhen Vestas sensor department began to take an interest in optical sensors, I followed an optical module at DTU, to get a more detailed knowledge of optical principles. I have greatly benefited from this, as when deploying optical strain sensors (FBG) in turbines.As I have a natural urge to find solutions, I have posted a number of patent applications. Many of these are about sensor solutions, including optical sensors. Of course it is only a small portion which has been approved, but so far I have over 20 patents granted, which I hope will come Vestas to benefit in the future. I have always been pleased to collaborate with other specialists. Both in the case of small informal groups or a very formal collaboration across multiple disciplines. This I have particularly benefited from the last 10 years at Vestas R&D, where effective tools like D-FMEA and SPRINT are used to ensure thorough and solid solution of the tasks.
