Tl;Dr: Entrepreneur: Software -> Hardware -> Artificial Intelligence -> Carbon efficiencyI am concerned about global warming and its immediate environmental consequences. I do not claim to have the solution, but I strive to ensure that my work does not contribute to the problem anymore.I began my professional journey working on software for products manufactured by others. I found it frustrating that manufacturers were resistant to even small hardware changes that would have improved their products. In 2009, I launch a first company to design Internet of Things products and the 360° experience that comes with them: from front-end and back-end development, to product design and manufacturing.We launched the first smart-plug product to be aware of the electricity drawn by the appliance connected to it. The aim was to save energy and to make people's life easier. Can't call it a success... but at least, it got me involved in digital fabrication right at the beginning of the Maker and FabLab movement.In 2013 I co-founded Airboxlab which focused on air pollution sensing. Hardware is hard but also incredibly rewarding. Our connected products generated unique and massive datasets that could be leveraged to create new products, business models, and user experiences.For example, our sensors, were able to collect one of the largest indoor air quality datasets of the time. This data was used to improve air quality in households and offices. It was used by academics to study the effects of pollution on specific communities. Airboxlab was also my first hands on experience with AI at scale. We deployed classifiers that ended up running on a data stream of more than 130,000 connected products.Now, my two co-founders and I, focus on developing and deploying technologies which reduce carbon emission. At Foobot, we use Artificial Intelligence to optimize building energy consumption through a retrofit solution.
