DMDC serves under the Office of the Secretary of Defense to collate personnel, manpower, training, financial, and other data for the US Department of Defense. My main responsibilities as the Senior Cognos Developer were to migrate their current reporting system to IBM Cognos 8. This involved being the lead on helping DMDC build complex PowerPlay cubes, Report Studio reports and dashboards using MDX. These reports/dashboards are being used by parts of US Armed Forces. Worked on multiple Cognos projects to migrate them into IBM Cognos 8. Helped in building Framework Manager models and PowerPlay Transformer models using IBM best practices.

Landis+Gyr needed a Senior Cognos developer who had extensive experience in building Cognos PowerPlay cubes in version 8.3. The data source for these cubes was Cognos Controller data mart tables. Developed several Analysis Studio and Report Studio reports with drilldown capabilities that are being used for analyzing companies actual and budget data on a monthly basis. These reports are being used for monitoring department performance throughout the company and are essential part of their business.

Fox Studio needed a Senior Cognos Developer who could help them in performance tuning their current budget and forecasting reports which were sourcing PeopleSoft ERP G/L application via adaptive application framework. These reports were based on MDR FM model and took 5-8 minutes to run completely. After analyzing the FM model and putting performance tuning onto the reports it now took 5 seconds to run the reports. It required knowledge of Cognos 8.3 multidimensional modeling and SQL Server 2005 Studios. Integration of Cognos Contributor cubes into Cognos Connection for live data validation. Also built reports using admin extensions from within Cognos Contributor.

HEW is a worldwide management firm specializing in HR, outsourcing and consulting located in Lincolnshire, IL, They needed a senior Cognos Architect with capability of helping them in fine tuning their current Unix based Cognos 8.2 environment for better report performance. Went through a full Cognos environment checkup, benchmarked their current environment. Monitored their Unix application server for CPU and memory usage. Recommended Cognos server system settings, FM model changes, and Report Studio design changes, which helped them in getting the best performance out of their systems. Also, went through network packet tracing to find bottleneck on the network. Trained their off-shore team in using Cognos best practices.

WPS provides Health Insurance services for US Department of Defense. WPS needed a senior Cognos BI developer. My main responsibilities were to create a Framework Manager model which will allow the end users to build Query Studio reports. Have training sessions twice a week with more than 50 end users. Fix issues within FM and Report Studio reports that were discovered by testers. Building query subjects with determinants so double counting wouldn’t occur, plus role playing and conformed dimensions against fact tables. I also developed 30+ complex finance style government reports which were previously built using Forest & Trees and Easytrieve queries. Heavily involved in improving report runtime both for Report Studio and Query Studio reports.

Helped ISS in developing an OEM solution. The OEM solution would be sold to IBM customer worldwide and will help their customers in better maintaining their servers and desktops. The Report Studio reports were based of multidimensional models. The client required deep knowledge of component layout references, dynamic sorting and grouping of alphanumeric and numeric fields and banded reports.

Responsible for report design documentation and being the lead team member of developers in building these complex Nielsen rating reports. Developed the Framework manager model using Cognos best practices. Also involved in the database design discussion with the database team. Developed 12 complex reports by creating calculation in the Framework Manager and store procedure calls within the Sybase database server.

Developed 31 KPI reports based of PeopleSoft software. Their current system does not have the capability of answering these KPI. Worked closely with the database team to design the Framework Model and PowerPlay Transformer Models. The efficiency of the cube is very important to the customer. So, the Framework Model and Transformer Models needed to be fine tuned. Full capability for the end users to drill down and drill-through to other reports within Cognos Connection.

Worked in Las Vegas with Harrah’s Revenue Management department. They needed to develop 200+ reports would be distributed on a nightly basis to all of their properties. These report concentrate on Lost Business and help their management in making better business decisions.

Worked with University of Alabama to convert 15 of their Library reports built in Crystal Reports 8.0 to Cognos ReportNet 1.1. These reports are presented to the Board of Trustee each year and the accuracy of these reports is essential for the university. Also converted budget reports which use to take 4 weeks of man hours to complete because of the complexity. Now all the budget reports are completed within three minutes.
