Thank you.", "I’ve known Ibraheem since the fall of 2013, when he became a member of the Amnesty International Student Club at Henry Ford College; I was the faculty adviser for that club. In addition, Ibraheem was in my Honors English 132 class—College Writing and Research. In both situations, Ibraheem acquitted himself very well and showed himself worthy of a place in any professional field he would like to enter. Ibraheem was president of the Amnesty International Club for two semesters; he demonstrated dependability and a keen sense of responsibility for the work of the group. He prepared agendas and assignments for the group, helping them navigate the Amnesty web site and find pages where they could take action. He talked to me often about his plans for the group’s activities. Students gravitated to the club because of Ibraheem’s friendliness and inclusive attitude. Other students look up to him as a natural leader. In addition to his work with Amnesty International, Ibraheem also worked hard to collect clothing and food—and to raise money--for refugees living at Freedom House, a shelter for asylum seekers in Detroit. Ibraheem’s compassion and concern helped motivate HFC students to become involved with this shelter on an ongoing basis. His work in English 132 was also of high quality, earning him an A in the class. He writes clearly and correctly, with good organizing skills, and he took advantage of every opportunity to revise. He accepted criticism and correction easily. He participated well in class discussions and was popular among his classmates, several of whom he recruited to join the Amnesty Club. In the short autobiographical paper I ask students to write at the beginning of the semester, Ibraheem proclaimed, “Every day I wake up with the goal of achieving more than I did the day before.” UnIike many of us who say this, Ibraheem means it.
