It is embedded in the transdisciplinary Horizon Europe projects EFFECTIVE (Enhancing social wellbeing and economic prosperity by reinforcing the effectiveness of protection and restoration management in Mediterranean MPAs) and TRANSEATION (Advancing Ecosystem-Based Management through Hybrid Blue-Grey Infrastructures in Marine and Coastal Areas)

GEF MedProgramme SCCF Project:- Preparation of a case study on coastal risks and potential solutions in the coastal zone of Algeria

International Cooperation Project: “Protection of the Environment and Biodiversity of the Algerian Coast (PEBLA)” (2020 - 2024)Project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, (GIZ-Algeria)Key Tasks and Deliverables:- Contribution to the organization and facilitation of a study tour to Germany and France for a delegation from the Algerian Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energies (MEER). The following themes were addressed:1. Ecotourism management within Protected Areas (PAs) MPA visited: Calanques National Park, France;2. Concepts of managing Fish Reserves and Artificial Reefs MPA visited: Côte Bleue Marine Park, France;3. Challenges and management perspectives of a Forest Park PA visited: Nationalpark Schwarzwald, Germany;4. Development and establishment of User Charters for Best Practices MPA visited: Port-Cros National Park, France.5. Meetings and exchanges with experienced MPA officials (Directors of Port-Cros National Park and Côte Bleue Marine Park), as well as with regional organizations working on MPA management (MedPAN, The MedFund, SMILO) and the promotion of Integrated Coastal Zone Management ICZM (Plan Bleu) in the Mediterranean region.- Drafting a final report on: “Consolidation of Knowledge and Best Practices in the Management of Natural Parks and Marine Protected Areas: Insights from a Study Tour to Germany and France”- Contribution as a “Content Expert” to the development of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) consisting of 4 learning modules: 1. Responsible Fishing and Sustainable Aquaculture; 2. MPAs and Fisheries Management; 3. Value Addition of Fishery Products and Ecosystem Services;4. Participatory Governance.- Assessment of a sustainable fishing training program- Development of the Management Plan (2024 - 2028) for the Habibas Islands Marine Nature Reserve (Algeria).

Postdoctoral research project: “Social acceptability of environmental conservation projects: Social-ecological implications of the creation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Algeria”Project carried out within the framework of the MOPGA (Make Our Planet Great Again) research programmeKey Tasks and Deliverables: - Evaluation of variations in social acceptance by fishers of MPA projects in Algeria - Examination of local knowledge relating to the establishment of MPAs and their overlap with the exploitation of natural resources - Understanding the heterogeneity of social-ecological systems- Contribution of empirical data on the processes that determine the social acceptance of MPAs in Algeria and the Mediterranean- Publication of scientific articles and participation in scientific events (seminars, congresses, etc.) of regional (Mediterranean) and international scope on the issue of MPAs

Postdoctoral research project: “Integration of Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK) on the management of artisanal fisheries in Algeria: A social-ecological approach within the context of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)” Project carried out within the framework of the LabexMed Unit of Excellence - Social Sciences and Humanities at the heart of Multidisciplinary Research for the Mediterranean Key Tasks and Deliverables: - Implementation of interdisciplinary and integrated approaches in the study and research on MPAs in Southern Mediterranean countries and the management of marine natural resources, particularly fisheries- Oral and poster presentations at scientific conferences- Support for network animation within LabexMed- Organization of workshops, study days, and reporting of programme activities- Publication of 4 scientific articles in specialized and internationally renowned scientific journals (see publication references)

Thesis title: “Integrated Management of a Mediterranean Marine Protected Area (MPA): The case study of the future MPA of “Taza”, Jijel, Algeria (SW Mediterranean)”Key Tasks and Deliverables: - Analysis of the legislative context of MPAs creation in Algeria and the challenges they face. Case study: The future MPA of “Taza”, Jijel, Algeria- Analysis and synthesis of progress made in Algeria in the field of MPAs and a description of the state of the art- Support in the development and writing of a research project proposal for an international donor (CEPF) on issues related to conservation and integrated management of coastal ecosystems in Algeria: “Development of a Classification Study for a Marine Protected Area in the Mediterranean: the case of Cap de Garde, Annaba Province, Eastern Algeria, and enhancement of conservation and protected status for the “Taza” Marine Protected Area, Jijel – Eastern Algeria”- Development of a cooperation agreement between the UBMA and PNTaza- Development of a cooperation agreement between the UBMA and the Fisheries Directorate of Annaba DPA

International Cooperation Project: “MedPAN South Project (MSP)” (2008 - 2012)The MSP was a 4-year collaborative project aimed at enhancing and strengthening capacities in the South and East Mediterranean for the establishment of new Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and better management of existing ones. The pilot project in Algeria aimed to support the Taza National Park, Jijel, Algeria, in the development of a management plan for the marine area adjacent to the Park.
